Read on to learn more about the different types of whimsical floral arrangements you could choose from!
What Is a Whimsical Floral Style?
A whimsical floral style is romantic, fun, and lighthearted! I specialize in this style, and it’s all about embracing spontaneity and charm. This floral style often appears natural and effortless—it’s not a style with a rigid, uniform structure.
For a whimsical floral style, you may see unusual flower choices paired together and unconventional color combinations used. I love this style because it can be paired with so many different wedding themes, whether you’re envisioning a garden-style wedding, an editorial-style celebration, or something else!
Also, this style is all about creativity - there are no rigid rules or structures that have to be followed. Rather, it's about embracing asymmetry, adding that special touch of magic with something unconventional, and creating a floral arrangement that feels playful and is bursting with vibrancy and life.
To create “whimsy,” your floral arrangement might be made up of a mix of blooms that include different textures, florals, colors, and levels of vibrancy. Some flowers that might be used include peonies, dahlias, lisianthus, ranunculus, and baby’s breath. For texture, you can add in eucalyptus, fern fronds, or ivy!
Then, to fully achieve that sense of whimsy, your arrangement will be finished with unexpected details, which could include adding dried flowers or creating unique shapes such as asymmetrical, cascading, or even wild and free-form shapes!
What Creates a Whimsical Floral Arrangement?
Here are some different elements that create whimsy:
Creativity with colors
Whimsical floral arrangements are all about playing and experimenting with color! For instance, you could have a bright and playful arrangement, a pastel arrangement, or an eclectic and bold arrangement. It’s all about doing and embracing something unexpected!
Texture and movement
With this style of arrangement, you’re going to encounter different textures, such as soft, fluffy blooms paired with delicate flowers. You’ll also see greenery added to the design to add softness and create something different.
This could look like vines and tendrils curling around the arrangement or spilling out of the vase they are placed in. Also, flowers might be added that move or sway in the breeze, such as wildflowers, to create a sense of movement in the overall design.
Unique elements
A whimsical arrangement is all about unexpected additions that can also create a playful or ethereal look to your overall arrangement. This could be dried botanicals, greenery, branches, feathers, etc.
Romantic Whimsical Floral Style
When you think of a romantic floral design, the picture that comes to mind is a delicate arrangement full of lush flowers and intricate details. So, how can a romantic floral style also have a touch of whimsy?
I achieve a romantic and whimsical look by pairing large, full blooms with smaller, more delicate flowers, or I like to add in some unconventional elements such as trailing vines or dried flowers. Wildflower Look With Whimsy
I adore wildflower-style floral arrangements, and to make them even more magical, I love adding a touch of whimsy to this arrangement. A wildflower arrangement is filled with overflowing, wild, and free-flowing blooms.
To create a whimsical wildflower floral arrangement, you could have an iris and daisy wildflower arrangement, a garden phlox, clematis, and Craspedia wildflower arrangement, or even a calla lily and seeded eucalyptus arrangement.
Wildflowers already have a whimsical appearance, but to elevate it even more, you can add twigs, berries, or dried flowers or use unconventional containers to feature your arrangements. To see a wildflower look with whimsy, check out the images below, and for a full gallery go here !
Garden Style With Whimsy
A garden-style arrangement is quite similar to a wildflower arrangement. This style embodies a loose floral arrangement that has the appearance of freshly gathered flowers from a garden put on display.
To add whimsy to this arrangement, I like to add some greenery and a touch of movement along with flowers with pops of color. Overall, this arrangement will look organic, lush, and natural-looking. Check out what a garden style with a whimsy floral arrangement looks like here!
Editorial Style with Whimsy
When you hear the word “editorial,” it might never cross your mind that an editorial style could also be whimsical, but it is absolutely possible to have both! A whimsical editorial-style arrangement can be dreamy, enchanting, and elegant.
For this style, I can create unstructured, natural floral designs to complement the beauty of your surroundings. Check out whimsical editorial-style florals here.
Modern Style with Whimsy
A modern floral style is clean and simple. Typically, you’ll see monochromatic or single-flower arrangements. To add a sense of whimsy to this style, I like to experiment by adding statement flowers, different textures, and unique shapes to create a stunning contemporary floral arrangement with a hint of enchantment.
